Barvinok

Our dancers may start as young as 4 years old in our pre-beginner/beginner classes. Dancers run in age on up to our teenage seniors and even include an enthusiastic group of fun adults as well. Our dancers are known to cherish not only the fine dance instruction but also the sense of belonging, the growth of friendships and the growth in themselves. Above all else dancing with Barvinok is FUN. Our dancers are enthusiastic youths who revel in dancing and performing.

Our instructors are all experienced dancers with performing troupes and bring to us a wide variety of ideas, choreography, energy, and vision. They are not only constantly exploring new regional dances for our students to perform but are bringing new and exciting choreography to some of the more traditional dances.

Barvinok has continuously expanded our costumes to reflect the growth of our group. We now have a costume inventory which rivals some professional dance troupes. They are our pride and joy and reflect in large part who we are. Most of our costumes are specifically sewn for our troupe in the Ukraine to give the school a unique look.

Barvinok initiated and sponsors the annual Southern Alberta Ukrainian Dance Festival held in March in Airdrie, Alberta. From its initial start in 1998, the festival has grown into one of the premiere Alberta events for dancers to attend. We regularly have entrants from all over Alberta, and frequently out of province as well.

Last, we are fortunate to have dedicated volunteers who literally make it all happen.
