Trevor Shular

Trevor founded Barvinok Ukrainian Dance Society with a passion for dance, a commitment to Ukrainian culture, and a desire to make this accessible to everyone. Trevor started his Ukrainian dance career with St. Stephen’s Cultural Class and Yalenka Ukrainian Dance Ensemble. His dedication has driven him to pursue technical classes both in Canada and abroad.

Trevor has developed a strong connection to Ukraine, and travels to the region annually. He takes part in workshops with some of the best Ukrainian dance choreographers and brings this knowledge back to Canada to offer classes that reflect ten distinct Ukrainian dance styles. Trevor also works with costume creators in Ukraine, hand selecting fabric and embroidery for the impressive selection of costumes Barvinok offers its students; Barvinok holds one of the largest collections of Ukrainian Dance costumes outside the Ukraine.
Cofounding Barvinok Ukrainian Dance Society in the fall of 1989, Trevor brings his expert training, dedication to dance, patience as an instructor and promoter of Ukrainian culture to the group. Under Trevor’s vision and guidance, Trevor has grown the school to one of the best groups in Alberta.

Trevor’s vision is contagious – his commitment to teaching has seen several former students join Suzirya professional dance group and return to Barvinok, either as instructors or as parents wanting their children to continue the tradition of Ukrainian dance. Barvinok Ukrainian Dance Society is privileged to have Trevor as the company founder and artistic director.
